Not perfect but well worth the money.

I regard service manuals as necessary as gear, my gripes with the one I received are:

1. The pictures are not in color...which is a lot more annoying than I thought it'd be.
2. I think they could've done a better job of keeping the text and the diagrams/pictures being referenced closer together.
3. They should write the manual from an approach of disassembling the bike as little as possible; some engine related work can be done without removing it completely.
4. No detailed procedure for bleeding the brakes on C-ABS models; being such a lengthy process makes it very expensive to have done by a dealership and I thought the purpose of these manuals is to do things yourself...If I could find a detailed process in pdf form online I believe they also could've.

Everything you need to fully dismantle and put back together your bike. Easy to understand easy to follow along. Great for beginners. Well worth it just for an oil change and changing your tires!

Grade 1-6?This picture-book biography recounts the boyhood of a real Lakota Sioux named Slow, who grew up in the 1830s. Today's children of any background can empathize with his efforts to outgrow his childhood name and take his place as an adult among his people. The illustrations, oils that are rich and somber, convey details of traditional Lakota life, from the warm, close interiors of the family home to a pre-dawn assembly of warriors about to raid their Crow neighbors. The text creates an equally subtle portrayal of Plains Indian life. Many stereotypes of Native American culture are gently corrected, as when the author acknowledges that "women are the heart of the nation." The traditional Lakota explanation for the advent of horses is given alongside mention of their historical introduction by European explorers. Dialogue in the Native language helps to convey the richness of the culture. By the time Slow earns his new name, young readers will feel they know a real person?the man who was to become Sitting Bull, one of the great Sioux warriors and a hero at the Battle of Little Bighorn. His dark acrylics punctuated by the unexpected pastels of diminished sunlight--purple snow, turquoise smoke, orange skies--is at once mythic and melancholy in its portrayal of a vanished culture. My writing of service and how-to journalism has always been guided by the belief that given the reasons why, folks are more likely to do the job right than if simply told how to go about some esoteric task. Knowledge converts the drudgery of work into understanding. Understanding puts you in control, which is where you should be as the owner/operator of your very own water and sewage system. So in common with my other how-to books and articles, The Dock Manual is not just a how-to book, it's also a "why?" book. I also believe that no matter who the reader--from novice to expert--that person should enjoy the read and learn something. "How-to" books are about work; reading the book shouldn't be. So while ensuring that my writing is jam-packed with good information and tricks of the appropriate trades, it's important to me that the book (whether one of mine or one I am reading) also be a good read. Respect for the environment, too, is another theme that runs through my service journalism. Not the trade-car-for-bicycle or eat-only-lettuce-fertilized-with-natural-gnats'-poo sort of radical stuff, but most definitely there are ways any member of humanity can minimize his or her impact on earth while still maintaining a lifestyle compatible with comfort and convenience. an excellent book on the basics of dock design/construction

This is for sure a very good "do it yourself" book. There is no doubt that it is a "must have" for those building their own dock/jetty. The author, Max Burns, has written an excellent book on the basics of dock design and construction that is surprisingly comprehensive but still practical. It is one of the two "only" books I have ever seen on recreational/residential dock construction. I think the way the book was able to streamline and summarize the various technical bits and pieces, although being targeted at the beginner to intermediate designer/builder, does not stop it from being a very useful and informative book to most people. Each chapter is short and readable; the subject matter is directly applicable to real life situations and is not written in a typical textbook manner. I think Sections 2 and 3 on dock types and building provide a hard-to-find and up-to-date overview on various related issues. The graphs and drawings are easy to interpret, and I believe are essential to understanding the key points. Coming from a construction/environmental background I found the inserts/information boxes on the environmental impacts and construction considerations to be written in a way that is very easy to understand and quick to pick-up. Yes, this for sure a very good book to have on the subject of dock design and construction. It is also a model for writers to follow on how to simplify a technical subject, which in many instances can be gruesomely complex, to an easily "digestible" read so people from different walks of life can enjoy it in a practical way and put it to use.

Save Your Money

This insult is not for the reader, but for the book; if you learned anything from this book , you have no business considering building a dock yourself. I already knew the difference between a screw and a nail and I'm pretty good at spotting the difference between wood and plastic, yet these are major points covered in this book. You will learn considerably more by simply walking along any waterfront and carefully observing those structures that stick out into the water.
Seriously, it's not that this book is too basic, it's that this book doesn't adequately address any of the issues you'll need to face to actually design, submit for approval and construct even the most basic dock. It adequately warns against the dangers of incompetant contractors, but not incompetant authors.

There are extensive sections on the different types of docks, materials, tools, hardware and building techniques. The section on connecting your dock to the shore was worth buying on its own! The section on designing your dock was short but there are pictures and drawings of various types of docks scattered throughout the book.
I've gotten many "do it yourself" type of books from Amazon and I think "The Dock Manual" is one of the best! If you have a dock, are planning on building a dock or just dreaming of it then you will LOVE this book!

a good workbook to accompany the handbook

This has some useful exercises to accompany the The ESL Writer's Handbook (which is excellent), but it could have more exercises.. it is rather thin; each topic includes only 1-2 tasks. It's really handy to have some practice along with the handbook; so I recommend having this if you are an ESL student using the handbook... but this alone won't give you sufficient writing practice.

The company that I rented from along with Amazon made renting my first book a breeze. The content within the book; however, is not 100% correct. Some of the answers in the practice problems are printed wrong in the back of the book and there are actually spelling errors within this book. Bad editing.

The condition of the book itself is good but of course for being used it did have pages torn out, but I got some pages from the online book and printed out a couple pages to fill in for the book I used. Hope people do the same as the pages that where torn out where VERY ESSENTIAL to my assignment!!!!!!!!!!!
